OUR ROLE

Livingston James was delighted to support the recruitment of the Executive Team – including the Chief Executive and four Executive Directors – tasked with delivering the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the largest sporting and cultural event to be held in Scotland in the last decade.

Context

The success of such a prestigious event will depend on strategic leadership capable of navigating complex stakeholder landscapes, ensuring operational excellence, and delivering an unforgettable experience on the world stage. Recognising this, the 2026 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee sought visionary leaders who could inspire teams, manage large-scale projects, and drive strategic initiatives with precision and impact. Given the time-sensitive nature of the project, it was crucial to identify the right candidates as promptly as possible.

To meet this need, we executed a comprehensive search strategy, complemented by extensive networking activities, to identify individuals with deep expertise in event management and strategic leadership. Equally important, we sought candidates who embodied the passion and vision required to deliver an extraordinary event. Our executive search process was tailored to find leaders capable of thriving in the dynamic and high-pressure environment of a global event while fostering collaboration across diverse teams and stakeholders.

We also designed and oversaw a robust assessment process allowing both internal and external stakeholders to gather the required level of assurance and confidence in each appointment.

Our Impact

Livingston James launched the recruitment campaign in early October and successfully appointed all members of the Executive Team by mid-December. All appointees will play a pivotal role in shaping the vision, strategy, and operational delivery of the 2026 Commonwealth Games and ultimately ensure an unforgettable experience for athletes, spectators, volunteers, and a global TV audience.
