Lions Breakfast Event

Earlier this week, Livingston James co-hosted a ‘Lions Breakfast’ event with Santander. Consultant, Chris Sole, provides an overview of the morning below.

Olympic Games, Football World Cups, British and Irish Lions tours – big sporting events have a habit of generating conversation, excitement, and a sense of community. The Lions Breakfast (co-hosted by Livingston James and Santander) certainly continued that tradition, with a brilliant morning spent in Santander’s Edinburgh office.

The bacon roll-fuelled morning was perfectly punctuated with a story-fest from former Scotland rugby captain, David Sole OBE, as he recounted tales of his ’89 tour of Australia with the Lions. He shared great insights into what a Lions tour is really like and the lasting camaraderie and friendships that develop. There may have been a few Google searches for “air piracy” once everyone got back to their desks!

The event proved to be a real catalyst for conversation. It was fantastic to see new and existing connections swapping stories, discussing selections for the first test, and comparing notes on the business year to date – as well as what’s on the horizon.

One key takeaway from the morning was that Scotland Rugby has a habit of winning Grand Slams following a Lions tour. With that in mind, we will all be keeping an eye on the final test in 2026.

Livingston James was delighted to play a role in facilitating an opportunity for individuals to grow their networks within a relevant peer group – connecting people with shared interests across the Scottish business network and beyond. We would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who attended the event, to Jamie Livingston for compèring the discussion, and to David Sole for generously sharing stories from his Lions days with the room.
