The Rise of AI and How it Can Benefit SMEs

In this article, Livingston James Research Consultant Harry Thomson explores the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and the benefits that it can bring to SMEs.

With AI now growing in use, it is now successfully being used not only from a social perspective but from a business perspective as well. ChatGPT made its way onto the scene in late 2022, indicating the first noticeable shift toward AI. Microsoft (Copilot) and Google (Gemini) now have AI integrated into their devices, and Apple’s ‘Apple Intelligence’ will also be rolled out later this year. Elon Musk recently unveiled the ‘Cybercab’, as well as a new look at Tesla’s Optimus robots – which Alex Proyas (Director of the 2004 sci-fi film I, Robot) suggested was a copy of his designs. It is evident that the big tech brands are pushing AI into the spotlight in 2024.

It is increasingly likely that AI will be here to stay, not only from a personal perspective but also from a business perspective. It is crucial that we start investigating the different ways that small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can look to use AI to improve the offering of their services, or at the very least, keep up with modern technology!

AI offers a wealth of opportunities for small to SMEs to improve efficiency, enhance customer experiences, and drive growth. By embracing AI technologies, SMEs can compete more effectively in today’s fast-paced market, making them more agile, responsive, and innovative. The future of business is AI-driven, and the time for SMEs to start leveraging this powerful technology is now.
