The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) is seeking an accomplished finance professional to join its Board of Trustees as Treasurer, at a pivotal moment in the College’s 344-year history.

RCPE is a registered charity supporting over 15,000 Fellows and Members across more than 100 countries, spanning 54 medical specialties. Through examinations, education, training, and lifelong professional development, the College plays a vital role in shaping the future of specialist (internal) medicine in the UK and internationally.

For the first time in its history, the College has appointed non-medical professionals to its Board, bringing fresh expertise and perspective to strengthen governance and long-term sustainability. Following the successful appointment of three independent trustees, RCPE is now recruiting a Treasurer – the first non-medical professional to hold this role.

As Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, you will provide strategic oversight of the College’s financial management, governance and risk. This includes reviewing budgets, monitoring performance, advising on investment and funding strategies, and supporting the Board in ensuring the College’s long-term financial resilience and impact.

Previous non-executive experience is not a prerequisite, provided you bring relevant experience contributing at board level and a clear understanding of governance, accountability, and strategic decision-making.

This voluntary role will provide you with a unique opportunity to contribute at the highest level to the College’s mission, shaping its financial strategy, governance, and long-term impact on the medical profession and wider community.
