Gender Diversity at Work: Turning Talk into Action – The Scotsman
Group Commercial Director of Livingston James, Sophie Randles, recently spoke to The Scotsman about gender diversity at work, underlining that diversity is not optional in modern business and that real progress will only come when organisations commit to turning ambition into measurable action.
Gender diversity remains firmly on the business agenda – not because progress has stalled, but because meaningful change requires sustained focus and collective action.
The article highlights that diversity is not a “nice to have”; it is fundamental to stronger performance, better decision making and long-term value creation. Yet, while awareness has increased, many organisations are still grappling with how to translate intent into consistent action. A core message is the importance of shared responsibility; progress depends on leaders at every level actively championing inclusion, challenging traditional perceptions of leadership and creating space for different perspectives to be heard.
Practical, everyday behaviours also play a critical role.; from inclusive language to supporting flexible working and recognising caring responsibilities, small changes shape whether individuals feel a genuine sense of belonging – and ultimately, whether organisations can attract and retain diverse talent.
Importantly, the piece reinforces the need to move beyond discussion and embed inclusion into organisational culture, leadership and decision-making frameworks.
Diversity at work is a focus that Sophie continues to champion through her ‘No Diversity, No Deal’ event series that she co-founded in 2022, bringing together leaders to drive real change in the investment, entrepreneurial, and dealmaking communities.
