Navigating New Terrain: Edinburgh Boardroom Lunch Event with Ian Reid (CBE)

Following on from a successful Glasgow event (just under 12 months ago), Livingston James welcomed back Ian Reid (CBE), Chair of Commonwealth Games Scotland and Vice-Chair of Glasgow 2026, to speak at a boardroom lunch centred on the increasing demand for finance professionals who can become both community leaders and business leaders.

Held at AAB’s Edinburgh office on Charlotte Square, Livingston James Board Director, Mark Lewis, was delighted to co-host this lunch event with AAB Partner, Stuart Rose. It was another engaging, informative and entertaining session, with a number of Scotland’s leading CFOs and Finance Directors across a wide range of businesses in attendance.

At the Glasgow lunch, the Commonwealth Games was still well over a year away, but clearly it is now in sharp focus with just three months to go until the Opening Ceremony on 23rd July. It was encouraging to hear that the majority of tickets have already been sold, so the excitement is building for what should be another wonderful opportunity to put Glasgow on the global stage.

The conversation followed similar themes from the Glasgow lunch but with several additional and interesting topics: how to build teams at pace, sustainability, net zero, and creating greater opportunities for apprenticeships. On a more personal note, Ian shared some of his recommendations for success, including being really open with your executive team and focusing on your key aims and deliverables, rather than being held back by the detail that you often can’t control.

Once again, the teams at Livingston James and AAB would like to thank Ian for his time, candour and good humour!
