One of Scotland’s largest and most innovative charitable organisations, Enable supports more than 15,000 people to live, work and participate as active citizens across Scotland and beyond. Rooted in human rights and powered by innovation, Enable champions equality, belonging and independence in communities nationwide.
Enable Communities sits at the heart of its mission, working alongside people with learning disabilities to strengthen voice, build confidence, deepen community connections, and create real change. From campaigns and activism to local groups and one-to-one support, Enable ensures everyone can participate, be heard, and belong.
The organisation is now entering an exciting and significant phase of evolution. Building on strong person-centred practice, it is strengthening its approach to further embed independence, voice and meaningful participation in community life. Enable’s ambition is to enable individuals and their families to connect with, navigate and shape the opportunities, networks and services that matter most to them. This means deepening approaches that build confidence, agency and progression, enabling people not just to access opportunities, but to shape them in ways that matter.
As Director, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight, driving the continued growth of Enable Communities while expanding its reach, influence, and impact. You will develop a clear, forward-looking vision for community inclusion, strengthening rights, voice, and participation, and positioning Enable Communities as a trusted and influential partner valued by funders, national bodies, and local authorities for its innovation, credibility, and measurable impact.
You will build a strong, motivated, and values-driven leadership team that feels empowered, connected to purpose, and accountable for high-impact delivery. You will foster a culture of innovation, learning, and continuous improvement, where new ideas are tested, lived experience shapes decisions, and data informs future investment.
Enable is seeking a strategic, values-driven leader with senior leadership experience in the third sector, public sector, or purpose-led organisations, and a proven track record of driving innovation, impact, and growth in community or social programmes. You will have exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence partners, funders, policymakers, and national bodies while balancing strategic vision with operational oversight. Experienced in navigating complex policy and funding landscapes, you will bring strong commercial judgment and the ability to identify opportunities, build partnerships, and grow sustainable income streams – ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of Enable Communities and maximising its impact.
This role offers the opportunity to make a difference at every level, from shaping organisational design and performance to influencing government, partners, and the wider system.
